Epic Pass Resort Reviews: Colorado Edition Pt. 1

EpicPass-Reviews-Colorado

As the ski season begins its graceful final descent, the inevitable question arises among us enthusiasts: which pass to grab for next year? With the Epic and Ikon passes both offering a world of snowy adventures, the decision is anything but easy.

That's why I've taken it upon myself to dive into some of Colorado's most renowned ski resorts, providing you with a firsthand look into each. Whether you're a seasoned veteran of the slopes or just getting your snow legs, join me as I unravel the charm and challenges of Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail, and Crested Butte.

Keystone Resort: A Family-Friendly Surprise with a Thrilling Twist — (7/10)

Keystone stands out for its proximity to Denver, making it a convenient choice for a quick ski trip. The resort offers the added perk of free parking, a rare find in the ski world.

While Keystone is often pigeonholed as a beginner and family-oriented destination, this reputation barely scratches the surface. Venture to the backside off the Santiago Express and into The Outback for some truly underrated terrain that caters to the more adventurous skiers. Despite its reputation, Keystone boasts a surprising array of advanced and expert runs, making it a destination that deserves a second look from those seeking a challenge.

Breckenridge Resort: The Quintessential Ski Town with Something for Everyone — (9/10)

Breckenridge is no secret among ski aficionados, resulting in its fair share of busy days. However, the real magic happens on weekdays or when you venture into its famed tree runs, where you can find tranquility and untouched snow.

From the adrenaline-inducing slopes of Peak 6 to the serene glides down Peak 9, Breckenridge offers a diverse playground that caters to all skill levels. The resort encapsulates the dreamy mountain ski town atmosphere, making it a go-to spot for those who cherish both skiing and the vibrant life of a ski community.

Vail Ski Resort: The Gold Standard with The Infamous “Back Bowls” — (8/10)

Vail is often heralded for its Back Bowls, offering vast expanses of skiable terrain that have become the stuff of legend. With a robust 5,317 acres at your disposal, the mountain feels like it's tailored for the more advanced skier, but there’s plenty of variety to suit all levels.

While Vail's extensive grooming and lift capacities are commendable, it's not without its critiques. Some argue the resort feels too vast and commercialized, lacking the charm of a traditional ski town. Additionally, the high cost of tickets and accommodations might deter some visitors.

Crested Butte Ski Resort: Authentic Charm with Extreme Terrain — (9/10)

Crested Butte wins hearts with its authenticity and vibrant local community. This gem offers an escape from the commercialized ski world, providing a unique and genuine skiing experience.

Known for its “ridiculous and rad” extreme terrain, Crested Butte challenges even the most seasoned skiers. However, its remote location means that crowds are few and far between, offering a serene skiing experience even when conditions are less than perfect.
